Celebrating Women Winemakers for International Women’s Day & Beyond

 This March, in honor of International Women’s Day, Neb proudly pays homage to the trailblazing women winemakers who have reshaped the global wine industry. These remarkable women have broken barriers with vision, passion, and an unwavering commitment to excellence. Whether preserving time-honored traditions through a modern lens or pushing the boundaries of innovation, their influence has transformed a once male-dominated field into a more inclusive and dynamic landscape.

Our featured winemaker, Virna Borgogno, of the historic Borgogno winery—dating back to 1761 in northwest Italy—has paved the way for women in winemaking. As the first woman in Italy to earn the Enologica Technica (winemaking technique) certification, Virna and her sister Ivana continue redefining excellence. Since the early 2000s, their winery proudly bears the Virna logo, symbolizing the rise of Italian women in winemaking.
