Why not kick the last month of 2009 off with your favorite chefs? Hang out with Tom and Thierry as they talk food!
After Tom and Thierry catch up with one another, they’ll check in with our girl on the go go, Amy Pennington of GoGoGreenGarden. She’ll be coming live and direct from her craft sale! She’ll be talking about her items on the sale table: caramelized seckle pears, chutneys, scented sugars and more!
The guys will also be talking tool technique. This week they’re discussing the ever useful, serrated knife then they’ll be giving it away. And to build excitment, you should know that it is a one of a kind, Tom Douglas by Pinzon, serrated knife MEDIA SAMPLE! Awesome!!
Tom and Thierry will then deem a variety of olive oils “delicious” or “not delicious”.
Producer Katie O. will be onsite at this year’s Punk Rock Flea Market in downtown Seattle. We’ve been told that there are tacos, vegan treats, skateboards, political propaganda and tarot card reading!
To keep with the holiday purchasing theme, Mike Teer of Pike and Western Wine Shop will reveal the “Tom, Thierry and Mike Wine Case” 3 wines picked by your 3 favorite guys! Give it as a gift or hoard it to yourself- tis the season of giving, but tis also your choice whether to drink or gift.
And this week’s special guest is Langdon Cook, author of “Fat of the Land”.
He’s going to drop some great knowledge about the world of foraging in the Pac NW!
All of this PLUS trivia, PLUS listener call ins, PLUS giveaways, so tune in!

It is raining cats and dogs outside… but it’s dry and cozy in the studio this week with Tom and Thierry! (mostly Tom though… since this week Thierry will be out of studio and checking in with us from sunny San Diego, CA!)
Where to begin with the fun we’ve got planned this week? Well, for starts we have the always charming Amy Pennington of GoGoGreenGarden on the show dropping some knowledge about KALE. Lacinato kale to be exact. She’ll talk about how to grow and harvest this much beloved plant while debating with Tom about how best to cook it.
Mike Teer of the beautiful Pike and Western Wine Shop, located right in the heart of the market, will be on to talk about his wine pick of the week.
Our special guest for the show will be Harris Salat, co-author of the book “Japanese Hot Pots”. He’ll talk about his passion for Japanese cooking, and his drive behind writing this beautiful book.

We’ll also check in with producer Katie O to see what’s hot on the streets of Seattle. Last week it was Ikea for meatballs, and this week she steps it up, puts on her heels, and is heading to the 20 Something wine event put on by the Washington Wine Comission.

Thierry is off galivanting about town, leaving Tom in the studio solo… but no fretting because he’s got the lovely Kathryn Robinson, of Seattle Metropolitan Magazine, on the show for a full hour to talk shop. What they’ll talk about is anyone’s guess, but it my educated guess is that there will be a large amount of witty banter regarding food and restaurants- and that’s well worth tuning in for.
Of course we have our weekly contributors on: Amy Pennington of GoGoGreenGarden and Mike Teer from Pike and Western Wine Shop. Amy will be talking about fava beans, while Mike will be talking about (no, not Chianti… although that would have been clever programming) a new 2007 release from a winery located here in Seattle!

We also have David Chang on the program to talk about his new book, Momofuku, and his upcomming dinner with Mark Fuller at Spring Hill.
And if all that just doesn’t do it for you… well then, you’re probably a little food dead inside.

After many weeks of canceled or shortened shows due to the Sounders, we’re back with a full-length 3 hour show! We expect it to be nothing less than non-stop rollicking food fun.
This week on “In the Kitchen” we check in with Ms. Amy Pennington of GoGoGreenGarden about… <insert drum roll> POTATOES! Yes, it’s the first crop of the year, so we’re going to honor its grand entrance by chit chatting about one of our most beloved vegetable staples.
Mike Teer of Pike and Western will also take a little time out of his day to drop some wine knowledge on the team. This week he’ll be talking about a favorite nebbiolo from a great Piemontese producer.
This week on “In the Kitchen” we’ve also got special guest….

Author of the book “Seafood Alla Siciliana”, Toni Lydecker! She’ll be on the phone to chat with Tom and Thierry about her new book which takes readers along with her on a Sicilian odyssey where she explores the island’s culinary history with seafood.
All this plus we’ve got trivia, a new lady reporting from the food streets of Seattle and prizes, and your calls!

In studio, we are going to be graced with the presence of the lovely Ms. Renee Behnke who will give us a great fall recipe and talk about her book “Memorable Recipes”.
All that, plus Amy Pennington will be coming to us live from Islandwood on Bainbridge where she’s teaching a “Homegrown Goodness” class and Mike Teer will be talking about his new favorite $10 wine!

If you missed Tom and Thierry’s KIRO radio show’s 5th Anniversary Celebration at Palace Ballroom and want to see a bit of the “Tin Gladiator” cooking competition where KIRO personalities were paired with Tom Douglas Restaurant chefs, then check out this video.

Last Saturday was the 5 year Anniversary Celebration of the Kiro radio show, “In the Kitchen with Tom and Thierry.” Tom and Thierry broadcast the show live from Palace Ballroom with 150 guests and some wild festivities. There was a radio listeners’ contest for Best Dish, and tastes of the finalists’ Best Dishes were served to the guests. There was also a rollicking “Iron Chef” type competition where Tom Douglas Restaurant Chefs were paired with KIRO radio personalities and given a limited amount of time to prepare two dishes from a secret-until-the-last-moment “black box” of ingredients. The secret list included: raw chicken, raw prawns, dandelion greens, local honey, and a bottle of bourbon along with several other ingredients. Congratulations go to the team of Lola Chef, Brock Johnson, and Kiro personality, Gregg Hersholt (of Kiro’s “Morning Show with Gregg and Jane.”) Brock and Gregg (see photo of the two of them) won the competition with these two dishes:
Roast chicken breast and stuffed chicken thigh with pancetta, brussels sprouts, and pecorino
Shrimp soup and shrimp dumplings with mandarin, ginger, and red chili
