Garden Blogs by Shelley Lance

This year, Tom Douglas Restaurants will be at the Flower and Garden Show serving tastes of Rub with Love Smoky BBQ Rubbed Pork Butt with Ancho and Molasses BBQ Sauce. Since many of us in the company are gardening fiends, we’re excited about the chance to hang out at the garden show all 5 days.

Every February, the Flower and Garden Show is my signal that it’s time to dust off the seed catalogs and start thinking seriously about getting out in the dirt to work in my vegetable garden, so this seems like a good moment to share a few vegetable gardening blogs.

This article by Seattle Times garden writer Valerie Easton turned me on to From Garden to Kitchen, by Bridget Lamp, a propagator for the Seattle Parks Department, who blogs about her Columbia City home garden.  Bridget doesn’t post new entries very often, only about once or twice a month, but her posts are delightful.  She lists the varieties of vegetable seeds she’s planting, shares her gardening trials and tribulations, takes photos of her beans and chard as they poke their heads out of the ground, and writes about how to use lemon verbena in pound cake.

Gogogreengarden is a vegetable garden service run by TDR (Tom Douglas Restaurants) alumna Amy Pennington.  Amy will actually come to your home and, according to your needs, will help you plan, plant, harvest, and even preserve your edible garden. (What an amazing gift to buy for yourself or your garden-loving sweetie this Valentine’s Day!) Amy also blogs, and she gives tips on saving seed, tending tomatoes, and using green techniques in the garden as well as sharing her jam-making tips and a pickle brine recipe.

See you at the Flower and Garden Show!

I think I walked by Bridget’s house today. Lots of interior renovation going on, so the blogging may be sidelined!

So Amy is alumna? I could use the service this year, but after years of community gardening, I can’t get myself to hire it out (and who has the $?)!
