Tom Douglas Summer Camp 2008
Forget about the snowflakes of late April. Summer is just
around the corner and that means one thing--- Yes, it’s time to sign up for
Summer Camp 2008!
We’re honored that the January 08 issue of Food and Wine
magazine mentioned Tom’s Culinary Summer Camp in an elite listing of “Fabulous
Trips for the Food-and-Wine Obsessed.”
Last year’s “camp” (think of this as an adult culinary
extravaganza- like summer camp…with wine!) was a great success for “campers” and
“counselors” alike. This year we’re working on a brand new over-the-top 5 day
itinerary which features more hands-on cooking (a chance to play in a real
restaurant kitchen!), cooking demos by celebrity chefs as well as by our own
talented crew, fun field trips, restaurant dining, and more. This is your chance
to get up close and personal to the inner workings of Tom Douglas’s culinary
wizardry.
We can’t reveal all the itinerary details yet, but to whet
your appetite here are a few sneak peaks:
• Grand Master of Charcuterie, Armandino Batali, owner of Salumi and father of
super chef Mario, will be here to teach us the magic of curing meats.
• French chef extraordinaire Thierry Rautureau of Rover’s will show Tom how a
fancy pants chef really cooks.
• Jerry Traunfeld, former Herbfarm chef, now stepping out on his own with a
soon-to-open Capitol Hill restaurant, Poppy, will give us a sneak peak and
spice-fragrant taste of his new culinary direction, inspired by a trip to India.
• Zoi Antonitsas, former Tom Douglas alumni, now a star on Bravo’s Top Chef will
demonstrate her favorite creations from the fast-paced TV show.
• Summer campers get a chance to pull pizza dough and fire pizzas in Serious
Pie’s gorgeous wood burning oven.
• Learn authentic Mexican cuisine and how to make Moroccan tagines.
• Taste wines with Michael Teer of Pike and Western Wine Shop.
• Learn to shop, budget, and cook a meal in Palace Kitchen alongside our chefs.
• Much, much more still in the works!
When and Where: July 6th-10th, 2008. Summer Camp home base will
be in the Palace Ballroom at 2100 Fifth Avenue.
Cost: $2500 plus tax per person.
Class space is very limited and will be filled on a first come first serve
basis. Please contact Robyn Wolfe at 206.448.2001 or
